AUSANGATE

TREK

Ausangate mountain is highest and the most sacred mountain in this area of peru and is considered the most important Apu in the Andean philosophy. Still in these days we continue with our tradition and makes pilgrimages to Ausangate for our ceremonies.

 

The trek will take you around this mystical, powerful mountain, and you will be camping amidst beautiful highland and colorful lakes. Ausangate is home to a vast array of wildlife, such as birds, llamas, alpacas, vizcachas and maybe the most important sacred animals pumas and condors. During this adventure you be taken care by our professional Inka Power team. This is a spectacular trek for who loves to be outdoors and wants to learn about the real Inka traditions and philosophy

 
 
 
ITINERARY
 
Duration: 6 days (5 and 7 days possible)

Season: May-October

 

 

Day 1- Cuzco – Tinki – Upis 

 

Early in the morning we will leave Cusco and drive for 4 hours to Tinki (3820 masl) We pass through picturesque villages, and once in Tinki we have a our lunch before we hike for 5 hours to reach the village of Upis (4400 masl). This is our first campsite, and from here we can appreciate the amazing Ausangate peak. We can enjoy the natural hot springs until dinner.

 

 

Day 2 – Upis – Puka Coccha 

 

We have an early breakfast and hike for around 2,5 hours uphill to Arapa Pass (4765 masl) Along this hike we we will see the majestic Ausangate Peak until we reach Aranpata Pass. From here we will continue to desending to Yanacoccha (black lake) and have our lunch and a little rest in this beautiful area. After lunch we continue for another 2 hours to our second campsite Puka Coccha (red lake) at 4480m

 

 

Day 3 – Hatun puka Coccha – Ausangate base camp

 

Again we start early and after breakfast there's a short climb to the Apacheta pass (4850 masl) a beautiful spot for pictures. Descending to our lunch in Ausangate Coccha (lake) and then uphill again to the highest point in our trek Palomani Pass (5200 masl). Here are tt´he best views of Ausangate and the surrounding Vilcanota range.  We continue for 3 more hours walking down to our campsite at Ausangate base camp (4800m)

 

 

Day 4 – Ausangate base camp - Soracuchupampa
 

After exploring the area and examining the glaciers of Mariposa and Ausangate, we continue with our trek until Soracuchupampa (4660 masl) Today we will see herds of llamas, alpacas and vizcachas, or we have a lot of luck, even the puma.

 

 

Day 5 - Soracuchupampa – Pacchanta 

 

 

After breakfast we climb up 2 hours to Ccamoa pass (5000 masl) where probably see Andean deer. From here we descend towards the  Qomercoccha (green lake) to finally arrive to Pacchanta campsite  (4100 masl) which is a small community with amazing hot springs where we will rest sore feet and legs after days of hard work.

 

 

Day 6 – Pacchanta - Tinki

 

From here we will take our way back to Tinki, our first campsite, and this will take around 2 hours. Once in Tinki no more hiking, we say thank you for an amazing week in the great outdoors and drive back to Cusco.
